Angus (Aonghas in Gaelic) is a vibrant and beautiful county, the cultural birthplace of Scotland where modern democracy started after the Declaration of Arbroath. Angus was southern heartland the Picts prior to becoming part of the kingdom of Scotland. The Picts battled, hunted, fished, and carved their culture in stone all over this region.
Angus has a proud heritage and you can be sure of a warm welcome to all our visitors. Angus boasts many miles of unspoiled landscapes, rolling countryside, rugged cliffs, seaside towns, market burghs, castles and ancient relics and artifacts, beaches, glens, rugged mountains and breath-taking scenery for visitors to explore. During the first millennium AD, the Picts (Pictii) of Angus, who were named the painted people by the Romans, lived and worked in this unique region. They left a very rich legacy of mysterious artwork carved on stones which can still be seen in the Angus landscape to this day.
